Disney has announced that its Star Wars: Galactic Starcurise hotel will be closing by the end of Sept. The hotel has won a Thea Award for outstanding achievement in themed entertainment, and has garnered some of the highest guest satisfaction numbers of any Disney hotel.
The 48-hour experience suffered issues even before its March 2022 opening as customers saw that the prices could range as high as $6,000 for a family for their stay. The stay did include all food and drinks – except alcohol and specialty drinks – a day out to the Hollywood Studios park, live performances in the hotel, and more.
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” the company said in a statement. “This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”
There is no word as of yet as to how Disney may repurpose the property. The hotel was custom-built to this experience, and the hotel rooms feature vliewscreens as opposed to windows to provide a more immersive experience. How that could be changed, if at all, remains to be seen.
The final voyage, the company’s name for your stay, will take place Sept. 28 – 30 of this year.
