Conan O’Brien has been selected as the host for the 97th Annual Academy Awards on March 2, 2025.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Friday morning that O’Brien was set to host the 97th Annual Academy Awards. Notoriously one of the toughest hosting jobs in entertainment, the Academy seems to think he is up to the challenge. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said of choosing O’Brien, “We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year. He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies and his live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group, which oversees ABC, which will televise the event, said, “Conan is a preeminent comedic voice, whose decades-long success is marked by his distinctive humor and perspective. He joins an iconic roster of comedy greats who have served in this role, and we are so lucky to have him center stage for the Oscars.”
O’Brien, 61, Hosted various late night talk shows from 1993 to 2021. He currently hosts the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend as well as his travel TV series Conan O’Brien Must Go. He has previously hosted the 2002 and 2006 Emmy Awards.
The 97th Annual Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2025.
