As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to change the world on a moment to moment basis, movie studios are having to make bold moves. The latest is that Disney is moving forward with releasing Pixar’s Onward to video-on-demand.

Onward hit theaters on March 6, just as the virus was really beginning to spread heavily. The box office results reflected that, and with theaters all but shut down now, there is little hope of the film doing much more outside of a home release.

With that in mind, and more people around the world being ordered to stay home, Onward is hitting video on demand on Friday, March 20, at 5pm Pacific for purchase at $19.99. If you can hold out a bit longer, the film will arrive on Disney Plus on April 3.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae in a joint statement.

Onward joins the likes of an early release for Birds of Prey and Bloodshot amongst other films.
