After a few months of broadcast TV regaining some of its luster, streaming popped up once again for the holidays.

For three months in a row, broadcast TV was winning back some of its market share. That came to a screeching halt in November as it lost a sliver of ground, and the streaming companies did some adjusting.

Netflix regain some ground, rising up to 7.7% from last month’s 7.5% of all viewing. Prime Video regained its lost ground and added some more as it lept up from 3.5% of viewing to 3.7%.

Once again, the FAST (Free Ad-Supported TV) services as Roku Channel jumped from 1.8% to 1.9%, and Pluto TV went .8% to .9%. Tubi held steady at 1.8%.

Despite all of the shifts this month, there is still a clear picture that something needs to be done about Paramount Plus, Max, and Peacock. While Peacock did enjoy some growth from 1.3% to 1.5%, and Paramount Plus gained from 1.2% to 1.3%, Max dropped for 1.2% to 1.1%. The three of them combined for 3.9% of all viewing. That is not a great combination when you consider how much money they have put into their programming.

Some form of merger seems inevitable with these numbers. Why Paramount Plus hasn’t found a way to incorporate Pluto TV – which it owns – in a meaningful way is the true mystery of the moment. The two combined add up to 2.2% and would finally propel them up the list by a decent amount. There have been rumors of Max and Peacock being in talks, which would combine for 2.6%, which, while significant, would still see them lagging the likes of Hulu.. With Prime Video integrating Freevee, Paramount is going to have to consider a move.

It’s clear TV consumption habits are changing at a rapid pace, and some companies are going to need to learn some hard lessons and soon.
