Masters of the Universe movie finds its Fisto and Sorcress

Amazon MGM has announced Morena Baccarin and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson have joined the cast of the Masters of the Universe movie.

It has been announced that Morena Baccarin will be playing Sorcress and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will be playing Malcolm/Fisto. They join the existing cast of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops

Mattel is hot around Hollywood right now following the success of Barbie in Summer 2023. Now the eternally gestating Masters of the Universe movie seems to have taken another major step toward becoming a reality. It was announced on Wednesday that Nicholas Galitzine has been cast in the role of He-Man.

“We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man,” said Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios. “Joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”

“Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon and team up again with the incredible Courtenay Valenti, to bring Masters of the Universe to the big screen,” said Robbie Brenner, president of Mattel Films. “We are thrilled to be producing alongside the highly respected and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight, and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!”

Travis Knight has been tapped to direct from a script by Chris Butler. Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner, and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing. The company has also released a synopsis of the film’s plot.

10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!

No cast has been announced for the film as of yet.

The film rights were last at Netflix which spent $30M on development before finally canceling the project.

Masters of the Universe is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
