Since Greta Gerwig signed on to tackle C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia at Netflix, the director has been aiming for at least a small theatrical release for the project. Netflix famously avoids theatrical releases, preferring everything to go directly to its streaming service.
It seems that she has finally convinced the streaming service to at least go for a small theatrical release.
The news was announced on Friday that the Narnia film will be shown on Imax screens across various territories beginning on Nov.25, 2026. If the film has any chance at a wider release, it is unknown at this time.
This is not the first time Netflix has partnered with theaters for a release, but it is not something that the company regularly engages in. It is highly doubtful that this will become the norm for releases going forward, so enjoy the small victories while you can.
