The Nintendo Switch 2 has been unveiled for a 2025 release, with more details slated for April 2, 2025 during a Nintendo Direct.
After nearly eight years and endless speculation, Nintendo has finally unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2. A video was released on Thursday, offering the first glimpse of the highly anticipated gaming console.
First, and most notably, the new console will be larger than the previous iteration. The exact dimensions were not shared, but with a dedicated Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2, 2025, we’re sure all of the missing info will be filled in at that time.
Possibly even more exciting for many fans is that it was confirmed during the video that you will be able to continue to play your Switch games on the new console. There was a caveat, however.
Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Switch Games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.
How many games won’t be compatible remains to be seen.
No firm release date was shared beyond “2025,” but typically, Nintendo prefers to go a little earlier in the year as opposed to right up against the holidays. Some rumors have been pointing to April, so expect a nice surprise during the Nintendo Direct on April 2.
No Nintendo Switch 2 price has been announced as of yet.
