Your next visit to AMC Theaters may be a tiny bit shorter, but exactly how short remains a mystery.

AMC Theaters will begin trying to shorten its pre-shows in an attempt to win back annoyed consumers who are skipping them anyway.
Studios have been growing increasingly annoyed with AMC Theaters, as it was revealed earlier this year that the exhibition company was adding even more ads to its pre-show. The pre-show was becoming so long that AMC had now included a note on its website stating, “Please allow 25-30 extra minutes for trailers and additional content before the movie starts.”
To study the impact, Deadline reported that the studios ran their studies of the top three chains and found pre-shows were running between 24 to 28 minutes on average, with 80% of the audience arriving a mere four minutes before the stated showtime.
In other words, no one was seeing the movie trailers, a staple of the movie-going experience and a studio’s marketing campaign for decades.
It seems the studies may have had the desired impact as AMC is now discussing shortening the pre-show. How much they may shorten it remains to be seen, but at this point any amount of cutting would be welcomed by the audience.
