Left, Right, Center, often called LCR, is a simple dice game that works well for families, parties, and large groups. Players roll dice to pass chips to their neighbors or place them in the center pot. The game is easy to learn and relies entirely on chance, which makes it accessible for all ages. Here is how to play.
Materials You Need
- Three LCR dice
- Chips, coins, or tokens for each player
- Three or more players seated in a circle
Basic Setup
Each player starts with three chips. Players sit in a circle so everyone has a clear left and right neighbor.
Choose one player to go first. Play proceeds clockwise.
Understanding the Dice
Each LCR die has six sides:
- L: Pass one chip to the player on your left.
- R: Pass one chip to the player on your right.
- C: Place one chip in the center pot.
- Dot: Keep one chip.
There are three dot faces on each die.
How a Turn Works

On your turn, roll as many dice as the number of chips you currently have, up to a maximum of three dice.
- If you have three or more chips, roll three dice.
- If you have two chips, roll two dice.
- If you have one chip, roll one die.
- If you have no chips, you do not roll.
After rolling, follow the instructions shown on each die.
Center Pot
Chips only go into the center when a player rolls a C. Chips placed in the center are removed from play and cannot be taken back.
Winning the Game
Players continue taking turns until only one player has any chips left. That player wins the game.
Important Rules to Remember
- You may only roll as many dice as chips you have.
- Chips in the center are permanently out of the game.
- Players with zero chips stay in the game and may receive chips later.
- The game ends immediately when only one player has chips.
Optional Variations
- Use coins or candy instead of chips.
- Set a time limit and declare the player with the most chips the winner.
- Play multiple rounds and rotate the starting player.
Tips for Playing LCR
- Make sure everyone understands left and right before starting.
- Use a shallow bowl or plate for the center pot.
- Keep chips evenly sized to avoid confusion.
- Play several rounds since games can end quickly.
- This game works well with mixed age groups.
