TV Line is reporting that the rumored Scrubs revival is closing in on giving the go-ahead to a new version of Scrubs that would serve as both a revival and a reboot.
Series creator Bill Lawrence is involved with the initial work on the series despite his overall deal that is currently in place with Warner Bros. TV. 20th Century TV has reached an agreement that allows him to be involved, but he will not be able to serve as the showrunner.
No deals are currently in place with any of the original castmembers, but Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are all reportedly interested in reprising their characters.
Scrubs debuted on Oct. 2, 2001 and ran on NBC for seven seasons before moving to ABC in 2009 for seasons eight and nine. In total, it ran for 182 episodes across the two networks.
The current plan is for the series to feature both returning and new characters which will lead to its double-duty of being a revival and reboot.
No word as of yet as to when the new series will enter production should it move forward.
