Netflix is jumping into the world of Twilight with an animated adaptation of the Midnight Sun novel.

After completing the original four Twilight novels, creator Stephanie Meyer wrote a fifth book that was published in 2020. Entitled Midnight Sun, the book covered the events of the first novel from the perspective of Edward Cullen as opposed to how everyone had seen it from Bella Swan’s side. Published in 2020, it was a bit too late to do a film adaptation with the cast of the live-action movies, so it was unclear if this would ever be adapted.
Netflix has now stepped in and given a straight-to-series order for the project.
The project was first put into development in April 2023 by Lionsgate Television, and was confirmed further in March 2024. Netflix has now picked up development on the project.
Sinead Daly will serve as a writer and executive producer on the project. Meyer, Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Fish Films, and Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment will also serve as executives on the project.
No word as of yet as to who will voice the characters or any potential release date for the project.
