How to play Celebrity is a question a lot of folks have, and we’re going to help you solve it.
Celebrity is a fast team-based guessing game that works for families, groups of friends, holiday gatherings, youth groups, or office game nights. Players try to guess famous people based on short verbal clues. The game is simple to set up, easy to learn, and creates a lot of laughs. Here is how to play.

- Split players into two even teams.
- Choose which team will go first.
All names stay in play for the entire game, so memory becomes a helpful tool as rounds progress.

Round 1: Describe the Celebrity
The first player draws a slip and gives verbal clues to help their team guess the name. You may describe the celebrity in any way, but you cannot say their name or any part of it.
Once your team guesses correctly, draw again until the timer expires.
Alternate teams until the bowl is empty. Return all slips to the bowl for the next round.
Round 2: One Word Only
In this round the clue giver may only say one single word. You cannot gesture or act. Choose a word that will help your team connect the clue to the name based on what they heard during the first round.
Play continues until all names are guessed. Return slips to the bowl.
Round 3: Charades
For the final round the clue giver cannot speak at all. They must act out the celebrity using standard charades. Because the group has now heard the names twice, this round usually moves quickly.
Play until the bowl is empty. Add up each team’s total points across all rounds. The team with the most correct guesses wins.
Tips for Playing Celebrity
- Pick celebrities that most people in the room will know.
- Avoid very obscure names that could stall the game.
- Use a one-minute timer for fast and lively rounds.
- Encourage players to be creative during charades.
- Use fewer slips per person for large groups.
