Production continues on the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, and it seems that White – best known for his role on The Bear – has joined the film in a role no one could have expected.
He’s playing a Hutt. Yes, as in Jabba the Hutt, the giant slub mob boss from Return of the Jedi. More precisely, according to Deadline, he’s playing Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt.
Introduced as a child in the Clone Wars animated series, Rotta was kidnapped by the Confederacy of Independent Systems in an attempt to discredit the Jedi. He was rescued by Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. It was the latter who nicknamed the ‘toddler,’ “Stinky.”
According to the report, Rotta will play a significant role in the story of the film, and it is not just a cameo. Seeing as Rotta was born somewhere around 25 years before the Battle of Yavin, and the events of the film are somewhere around 7 years after Return of the Jedi, this would place Rotta in his early 30s. It’s not hard to imagine the son of the infamous Jabba may be a significant player in the galaxy by this point.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
