Here’s our first look at Wonder Woman 1984’s villain

After revealing the return of Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman 1984 director, Patty Jenkins, shared the first image of the movie’s villain. Played by Kristen Wiig, the film will introduce audiences to Barbara Minerva, a.k.a. Cheetah, an archeologist who may be after Diana’s Lasso of Truth.

The first image finds Minerva at what looks like a natural history museum, with a number of animals local to Africa all around her. This could be key to Minerva’s arc in the upcoming movie, because it’s there that she takes over the Cheetah persona, bestowing her with superhuman speed and strength.

In the comics, her passion for archaeology leads her to lust after Diana’s Lasso of Truth. This puts Cheetah and Diana at odds.

It’s unclear how Cheetah will be incorporated into Wonder Woman 1984, but it doesn’t sound like the villain will have any delusions of taking over the world. Either way, it’s nice to get a glimpse at the film’s villain this far in advance of its release.

Since production began for Wonder Woman 1984, Jenkins has shared a number of photos from the set, including one of Wonder Woman dressed in her iconic outfit.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for a release on November 1, 2019.
